Participants of the solemn rally devoted to the day of the liberation of Grodno from the Nazi invaders gathered at the monument to the dead soldiers and partisans under the call sign of the orchestra, in the park named after Gilibert. On 16th of July 16, exactly 75 years ago, the city was liberated by the troops of the 2nd and 3rd Belorussian fronts. On this day Moscow saluted them with twenty artillery volleys from 224 guns.
17 units and formations were given the honorary names “Grodno” by order of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief. An incredible price went to the victory of our city: its occupation lasted for 1111 days and nights, during which time the Nazis destroyed more than 50 thousand citizens.
A special, honorable place among the guests of the holiday is among veterans of the Great Patriotic War, ZinaidaTimofeevnaSudakova, Elena PavlovnaYurova, Alexei Mikhailovich Kuznetsov, Nikolai Mikhailovich Shishkov. Viktor Liskovich, Deputy Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee, Anatoly Dorozhko, Chairman of the State Control Committee of the Grodno Region, Igor Popov, Chief Executive Officer of the Regional Executive Committee, city leaders, representatives of public associations and organizations, enterprises and institutions came to congratulate the beloved city with the second birth.
- For us, Grodno citizens, 16th of July is a sacred date. Every time we bow our heads at the Eternal Flame, we honor the great feat of those who went into immortality. Their names live in the names of streets and schools, border outposts and museums, addressed Mechislav Goi, the chairman of the Grodno city executive committee, to the rally participants. - To be the heirs of the winners is not only a great honor, but also a great responsibility: we continue the glorious traditions of our fathers, grandfathers and great-grandfathers, and increase the glory of Prinemansky region with our work.

The city over the Neman flourishes and becomes prettier every year: new residential neighborhoods, objects of social sphere and trade, recreation areas of citizens appear on the map of Grodno. By the new school year, one of the largest secondary schools in the country will open its doors in the Olshankamicrodistrict. An ambulatory will also appear here. Already the reconstruction of the Palace of Culture and many other objects begin. The traffic on the reconstructed street in the Vishnevetsmicrodistrict was started in honor of the holiday of liberation of Grodno.
The city is also developing thanks to the visa-free regime on its territory. In less than three years, more than 200 thousand foreign tourists from 70 countries visited Grodno. Along with Minsk, the city over Neman became another tourist center of our country.
According to a good tradition, on the day of the liberation of Grodno, parents were honoured whose child was born on 16th of July, 2019. This time Regina and Alexander Predko accepted congratulations on the birth of their son.
A veteran of the Great Patriotic War, Stepan Moiseyevich Safonov came to the rally along with his relatives, granddaughter and great-granddaughter.
- I was sent to a vocational school, but I refused and chose the fate of a defender of the motherland. He fought in the 1st Baltic and 3rd Belorussian fronts, participated in the liberation of Belarus and Lithuania. He passed the battle path from the Great Bow to Königsberg. After the war, our unit was transferred to Pinsk, later I was sent to Volkovysk, and from there to Slonim. Here I met my wife, with whom, after many years, we moved to Grodno.
The granddaughter of Stepan Moiseyevich Natalia came to visit her grandfather from Siberia.
- The other day, grandfather invited us and his daughter to a rally, today they came here with the whole family. The holiday is very touching and beautiful - we very much appreciate the world that veterans of the Great Patriotic War gave us. Our grandfather, although he did not participate in the liberation of Grodno, passed as a part of tank forces with military roads through the north of Belarus.
The participants of the solemn meeting laid flowers and wreaths at the monument to fallen soldiers and partisans, paying tribute to the memory. The veterans, the administration of the region and the city, young Grodno citizens and other participants in the rally sounded the sounds of a metropolis with a minute of silence in memory of those killed during the years of hard years.
The rally ended with a solemn march of soldiers of the Grodno garrison.
